Though the official start of winter is still more than a month away, parts of northeast Ohio were slammed with up to 12 inches of snow, and the National Weather Service says as much as 4 additional inches of lake effect snow could fall in portions of northeast Ohio through early Saturday morning. Parts of New York measured the season's first big snowfall in feet, rather than inches, on Tuesday as 3 feet of lake-effect snow blanketed the Buffalo area and forced the closure of a 132-mile stretch of the state Thruway.
